Two months after the World Premiere of The C Word campaign, craftscotland took over Glasgow Drawing Studios to host a pop-up party in celebration of the huge success of the campaign so far. The Spread The C Word party, which was held on the eve of a new series of adverts launching on STV this week, encouraged the many guests in attendance to do just that and spread the word far and wide on what is happening in the world of Scottish craft. The party was inspired by the pop-up shop model, which has become increasingly successful in the UK over the past 12 months, where an empty space of almost any description is transformed for a temporary period of time into an exciting retail outlet. Taking less than three weeks to organise, and with a selection of craft for sale made by more than thirty makers, the Spread The C Word event was a pop-up party in every sense. Everything that makes a great party was there on the evening. Carounn Gin flowed freely, the DJ set the mood in a breathtaking venue which many likened to a Manhattan loft apartment, and the guests were from a variety of backgrounds. Some had an intense passion for craft whilst some weren't sure what to expect but were curious so came along to find out more. Craft of all shapes and sizes, disciplines and price points was for sale on the evening, and many of the makers came along to join in the fun. craftscotland received particular praise for showcasing work from across Scotland when, given such a short space of time to organise the event, people expected to see work from makers mostly based in Glasgow and Edinburgh. Work featured in the ad campaign was also on sale during the evening, and it was wonderful to see most of The C Word makers (those featured in the campaign) together for the first time. The party was such a huge success that craftscotland is hoping to develop a series of pop-up parties in 2010. Where would you like to see craft 'pop-up'? Send your suggestions to updates@craftscotland.org and we'll post the best on the site. In the meantime, have a look at some of our photos from the night - taken for craftscotland by DNAnderson Photography. |
