VISUAL ARTS DEVELOPMENT OFFICER

£19,311 - £21,189

Based at Gracefield Arts Centre in Dumfries, this post offers the opportunity to join an energetic team promoting the Arts across Dumfries and Galloway, a region now recognised nationally for the high quality of its visual arts and craft sector.

Responsible for the continuing development of the visual arts sector in Dumfries and Galloway, you will have two years’ experience in project/event management relevant to contemporary visual arts development and an arts background with particular relevance to the visual arts. You will have a sound working knowledge of marketing and exhibiting contemporary visual art for cultural and retail purposes, demonstrable knowledge of the principles of audience development and database management and specialist knowledge of issues relevant to practising visual artists. With administrative experience, including the management of financial resources, and a sound understanding of the principles of fundraising for projects and initiatives, you must have the ability to plan, organise and carry though activities and coordinate input from various agencies. You will work concurrently on a number of different projects and ensure these are completed to timescale. A team worker, you will be able to exercise a high degree of initiative, work under pressure and prioritise your workload. You will have excellent verbal and written communication skills, and basic word-processing skills.

A formal qualification in Fine Art/Craft and/or Marketing to degree level is highly desirable. Knowledge/experience of strategic planning will be an advantage as will experience of marketing/PR planning, a track record of successful fundraising, and knowledge of local government and Dumfries and Galloway.

A current driving licence is required, access to a car is desirable.  Grade reflects the requirement to work occasional evenings and weekends.
