Description

The University of Dundee is holding a Masterclass in Chinese calligraphy in the Graduate Centre, Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design, in March 2006. Professor Lu Rui Xiang, from Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts in China will lead the class.He will take participants through traditional brush pen techniques and the structure of the various characters, as well as looking at formal calligraphy layout and pattern. His visit will provide a rare and unique opportunity to learn these ancient techniques from an esteemed Chinese Master.
In addition to running the Masterclass, Professor Lu will deliver a public lecture during the week, and an exhibition of his work will be held in the University.

The Masterclass is open to anyone with an interest in calligraphy, and will take place between Monday, March 13 and Friday March 17 2006. The fee of £250 includes admission to the lecture, all materials and tuition, lunch and refreshments for the week. Admission to the lecture only is free, and the date and venue will be confirmed on the university website. Confirmation of the venue for the exhibition will also follow.

The Scottish Arts Council has indicated that artists and/or art workers wishing to attend the Masterclass may apply for support through the professional development fund, marking ‘craft’ as the main art form. http://www.scottisharts.org.uk/1/funding/apply/individuals/acrossartforms.aspx
