How was the concept of ‘craftscotland’ arrived at?
The Scottish Arts Council established a Steering group, then chaired by Professor Ian Pirie of Gray’s School of Art, and including representatives of the crafts community, the Scottish Arts Council, and HI~Arts. The original remit of this Steering Group was to oversee the development of a national web resource for the crafts. It was also realised that a new visual identity or brand for Scottish Crafts needed to be developed, with craftscotland being charged to offer a wide range of opportunities for the promotion of Scottish makers and their work, locally, nationally and internationally. Out of this realisation came the development of the concept of ‘craftscotland’.
