Crafts Selling Events Research on Scotland
28 May 2004

The Crafts Council has been contracted by the Scottish Arts Council to undertake research into the potential for developing mechanisms to promote and sell Scottish crafts both nationally and internationally. This research is led by Karen Turner, Director of Business Development at the Crafts Council, and the team responsible for Chelsea Crafts Fair, COLLECT and the Crafts Council shops.

The aims of the research are to:
• identify and evaluate the potential to promote and sell high quality Scottish craftwork through existing events in Scotland, across the UK, and internationally
• examine whether there is a case for developing any new selling event(s) in Scotland
• propose options for implementation.

The Crafts Council would therefore be extremely grateful to hear from any makers or organisations who have information (or contacts) relating to activities within the Scottish crafts sector. This could include: international or UK crafts events (past/present/future), organisations/ individuals/websites supporting the crafts in Scotland, festivals or ‘arts’ events in Scotland (incl. open studios), venues for selling Scottish Crafts (galleries, arts centres, crafts centres, museums, hotels, stately homes, etc), or any useful articles or publications.
