As Scotland bursts into bloom for summer the Crawford Art Centre in St Andrews has chosen the garden as the theme for an exhibition of work by 19 makers from around the UK.
The exhibition of craft inspired by the garden complements their ‘What in the world is more beautiful?’ exhibition which is a intriguing collaboration between artists, gardeners and beekeepers.
The craft exhibition includes framed textiles of flowers and greenhouses by Pauline Pert, paper lamps in cut-out flower or plant designs by Hannah Nunn and Whichford Pottery’s terracotta garden pots, which were recently featured on BBC’s Gardeners’ World.
There are effervescent floral wall mosaics by Jan Kilpatrick who lives and works in the East Sutherland fishing village of Helmsdale. She expresses her relationship with the natural world through collage – both in ceramics and textiles.
There is also delicate enamel and silver forget-me-not jewellery by Christina Paterson. A graduate of Glasgow School of Art, she takes inspiration from natural forms and textures.
The exhibition is on at the Crawford Arts Centre, 93 North Street, St Andrews KY16 9AD (01334 474610) from 2 July until 22 August and is open Monday to Saturday 10am to 5pm and Sunday 2 to 5pm. Admission is free.
