Cove Park Awards Crafts Residency
02 August 2004

Cove Park in Argyll and Bute has awarded its three-month Crafts Residency to the London-based artist Sophie Horton.

Sophie, who started her residency in July, is known for her large-scale site-specific work produced for outdoor spaces. These projects frequently employ knitting and crochet and the juxtaposition of materials such as concrete with crocheted wool wrapped around a tree trunk or paving stone.

Her work has been shown widely throughout the UK and internationally. Recent solo exhibitions have been held in Australia, the USA and London; her work was also shown within the group shows ‘Out There: Craft for Exterior Living’ at the Crafts Council and ‘Exhumed’ at the Garden History Museum (both London, 2003).

Cove Park is a unique international resource dedicated to artistic excellence and the professional development of individuals and groups working within the arts and creative industries. Through an annual programme of residencies and events, Cove Park supports artists at key stages in their careers in a multidisciplinary environment.

The Crafts residency, funded by the Scottish Arts Council, is a central element of Cove Park’s annual programme. Designers and makers are given the opportunity to develop new projects and to meet artists and professionals working in other disciplines. Previous Crafts residents since 2000 include: Richard La Trobe Bateman, Lizzie Farey, Sarah Keay and Sarah Stewart.
