‘Surfacing: Polly Binns’, which opened at the Collins Gallery in Glasgow last weekend, is a major retrospective exhibition by one of Britain's leading fibre artists.
This is the only Scottish venue where the show will run.
The work on display spans a career of 25 years and comprises a diverse range of media including textiles, ceramics, digital imagery and film, all inspired by the ever-changing marshland zone of the Blakeney channel on the north Norfolk coastline.
Polly Binns and the exhibition curator, Pamela Johnson, will visit the gallery on Thursday 7 October to discuss before an audience contemporary developments in textile art, its integration with other art media and ways in which it is presented to the public.
On the discussion day lunch will be available in the gallery at 12 noon and the discussion will begin at 1pm. Tickets for the event cost £10 (£8 conc) or £5 (£3 conc) for coffee/tea only. Student groups are welcome. For further information contact the gallery on 0141 548 2558 or e-mail collinsgallery@strath.ac.uk
The exhibition, originated by Bury St Edmonds Art Gallery, is supported by an illustrated publication.
The exhibition is on until 9 October at the Collins Gallery, University of Strathclyde, 22 Richmond Street, Glasgow G1 1XQ. Opening hours are Monday to Friday 10am to 5pm and Saturday 12 noon to 4pm. Full disabled access. Admission is free.
