‘empty’, an exhibition profiling nine ceramic artists from across the UK, has opened at An Tuireann Arts Centre on the Isle of Skye.
The exhibition shows work by David Bursill, Amy Cooper, Christine Jones, Jennifer Lee, Susan Nemeth, Jud Pollock, Helen Rondell, Sarah-Jane Selwood and Sasha Wardell.
Sarah-Jane Selwood explores the tensions of rhythm, line and space in her vessels which are wheel-thrown, cut and reconstructed, in porcelain or terracotta clays then glazed or hand-diamond polished.
On her website she explains “From the simple curve of the original form new volumes and lines emerge changing the internal and external space of the vessel, instilling it with a suspended movement – a tension – a memory.”
Sarah-Jane, who trained at Edinburgh College of Art, has exhibited her work across the world.
The exhibition is on at An Tuireann Art Centre, Struan Road, Portree, Isle of Skye on from 2 October until 13 November 2004. Opening hours are Monday to Saturday 10am to 5pm. Admission free. It was curated by An Tuireann and funded by the Scottish Arts Council.
