The exhibition arttextiles³ has opened at the City Art Centre in Edinburgh showing over 20 works of contemporary art and craft by emerging artists and makers who reference textiles in their work.
The exhibition charts the shift in practice and challenges the traditional categories with the works on display ranging from weaving to performance, photography, digital media, and site-specific works, reflecting the diversity of artists’ practice today.
The artists selected for the exhibition are Farhad Ahrarnia, Susan Collis, Fran Cottell, Yvonne Dröge Wendel, Amanda Francis, Mary Longford, David Mabb, Barley Massey, Susanne Nørregård Nielsen, Bharti Parmar, Catherine Prior, Tony Rickaby, Tajender Sagoo, Joe Scotland, Andrea Stokes, Molly Tufnell, Gerard Williams and Silvia Ziranek.
This is the third major survey of contemporary works organised by the Bury St. Edmunds Art Gallery and there is also a historic overview on arttextiles¹ and arttextiles², with commissioned commentaries and essays.
arttextiles³ is accompanied by a substantial full colour catalogue with critical analysis and a record of debate among the selectors. The exhibition is supported by City of Edinburgh Council and the Scottish Arts Council.
