An exhibition of international art jewellery called ‘Fools Gold, Worn Art and Useless Jewels’ opens today at the artist-run Embassy Gallery in Edinburgh. Curated by practicing artists it includes work by artists from as far apart as Japan and Edinburgh.
Jeweller Lynne Kirstin Murray writes about the exhibition:
‘Within the eclectic show, Natalie Luder dramatically plays with scale in her table ornament, Rooster Brooch, as Anna Osmer Andersen exposes us to her exuberantly large stitched neckpieces. Polly Wales asks us if we can wear music with her gold disc records, and Luzia Vogt uses combs to create delicate fossil like structures. Helen Britton is not shy of catapulting colour to the core of her well-composed pieces, as pungent as Ruudt Peters vibrant red IOSIS neckpiece. Lisa Walker plays with a collection of objects, introducing us to a dozen doodle-like pieces. Karl Fritsch, in tander with David Bielander pioneer an unconventional zoo of characters to the equation.
It is such a rare treat to have so many exciting jewellery artists exhibiting in Scotland, this ambitious show intends to reveal a few hidden surprises, with one certainty: you will not find any fools here.’
Other exhibiting jewellers include Ela Bauer, Hannah Chater, Yu-Chun Chen, Susie Green, Jennifer Haston, Ineke Heerkens, Meiri Ishida, Adam Paxon, Karin Seufert, Vera Siemund, Barbara Stutman, Karola Torkos, Machteld van Joolingen, Andrea Wagner and Mina Wu.
