Snapshot of Style in Glasgow
14 July 2005

Design Collection 2005, an exhibition capturing a moment in time of a selected group of designers, is currently on at the Roger Billcliffe Gallery in Glasgow.

The aim of the collection is to show an original and diverse body of work featuring the mid-year collections by some of the leading designers in Europe and the UK.

The exhibition includes jewellery by Alan Craxford, Liz Tyler, Rudolf Heltzel, Mark Nuell, Daphne Krinos and Catherine Mannheim, silver by Angela Cork, Wayne Meeten, Ane Christensen, Pamela Rawnsley and Bryony Knox, glass by Line Gottfred Peterson, Bob Crooks, Layne Rowe and Catherine Hough and bags by Friedrich Rippmann, Hester Van Eeghen and Nuria London.

Scottish furniture designer Mark Devlin, who was selected for Chelsea Crafts Fair in 2004, is also showing his latest work.  Mark laminates together several layers of birch ply to make individual ribs which create open wave forms giving his furniture a strong sculptural presence.  The forms are designed in a way which allows seats to be folded down and nest neatly into each other.

Mark, who is based in Dumfries, trained at Cumbria College of Art and the University of Central Lancashire.

Design Collection 2005 is on at the Roger Billcliffe Gallery, 134 Blythswood Street, Glasgow G2 4EL from 18 June until 29 July 2005.  Opening hours Monday to Friday 9.30am to 5.30pm and Saturday 10am to 1pm.
