In the first six months of this year craftscotland has received many enquiries about makers featured on the website from galleries, shops, curators, individuals and journalists.
Helen Gaffney, a fourth year student at Glasgow School of Art, was featured in a craftscotland news story when she won the Goldsmiths’ Company’s Young Designer Silversmith Award 2004. The photograph showing the salt mill and pepper mill which she designed was noticed by Homes & Interiors Scotland magazine, and then appeared in a full page story in the magazine.
An American in Utah was advised to contact the craftscotland website after she saw someone wearing a felt hat at a local fair and asked the wearer where she could buy one like it.
In Columbia, USA someone who had bought a Tait + Style scarf while on holiday in Scotland contacted the website when they lost it and wanted to buy another one.
A London gallery and several individuals have been put in touch with jeweller Adam Paxon who featured on our home page in February.
In July a company organising interviews for a Dubai TV company contacted craftscotland and we were able to put them in touch with potential interviewees.
Among the many other designers who have been contacted via craftscotland are jewellers Carla Edwards and Grainne Morton, silversmith Adrian Hope and new materials artist Paul Topen.
Many makers already registered on the database, which enables visitors to the website to make direct contact with them, have also told us about enquiries from shops, galleries and for commissions.
Every maker based in Scotland can have a free listing on the Makers Directory on the craftscotland website.
If you want to make sure your work is seen register on the craftscotland directory as soon as possible.
