Scottish Jewellers Exhibit in Poland
22 August 2005

An exhibition of Contemporary British Jewellery, currently on at the Bielak Gallery in Poland, includes work by four Scottish jewellery designers.

Alison Macleod, Hannah Louise Lamb, Kaz Robertson and Carla Edwards were all invited to participate in the exhibition at the cellar gallery in Krakow which is owned by husband and wife team Andrzej and Barbara Bielak.

Alison, who attended the exhibition opening, is a graduate of Edinburgh College of Art.  Her work is informed by human ties to the past.  She loves collections of old things and the idea that for many people the memory of someone or a time past can be held within a possession.  She uses a wide range of materials with beaded wire to reflect the intense decoration found in antique jewellery.

It is the sense of place and belonging which influences the work of Hannah Louise Lamb, a graduate of Glasgow School of Art and the Royal College of Art.  She uses decorative motifs and colours from wall coverings, pets and other imagery from the home in her intricate jewellery which combines silver with silk, felt and semi-precious stones.

Colour, interaction and versatility are what matter most to Kaz Robertson, who studied at Edinburgh College of Art.  She sets magnets within resin to create pieces that can be adapted to suit the mood of the wearer.  Some are reversible allowing the wearer both a subtle and a more daring option within the one piece.

Carla Edwards, another graduate of Edinburgh College of Art, works in polyester resin which she mixes with other materials such as acrylic, paper, gold, silver and aluminium.  She uses layering to exploit the translucent qualities of the resin.

The other eight British jewellers invited to take part in the exhibition include Jane Adam, Yoko Izawa, Kathie Murphy and Laura Baxter.  The exhibition is on until 30 August at the Bielak Gallery, Krakow, Poland.  Find out more and see photographs of the opening at www.galeriabielak.pl

Alison Macleod, Hannah Louise Lamb and Kaz Robertson will also be selling work at Chelsea Crafts Fair 2005 taking place in London between 11 and 23 October 2005.
