Two shows, ‘Small is Beautiful’ and an exhibition of jewellery by Judy McCaig, are currently on at the Scottish Gallery in Edinburgh.
The exhibition of small objects by British and Australian makers ‘reveals the powerful and often monumental quality of the small’. Makers included in the exhibition are ceramicists Pippin Drysdale, Edmund de Waal, Prue Venables, Piet Stockmans and Liam Flynn, wood carver, Jim Partridge, silversmiths David Huycke, Hiroshi Suzuki and William Kirk and glass artist Jane Osborn Smith.
Also at the same venue is an exhibition of new jewellery by Judy McCaig. Writing about her work she explains ‘The work has wide-ranging influences and my creative process is more subconscious than conscious – often the work finds its own form. Animals come through me rather than being creatures I create. They express what can’t be said in words. Almost like discovering that the piece was already there.’
The exhibitions are on at the Scottish Gallery, 16 Dundas Street, Edinburgh EH3 6HZ from 7 until 29 November 2005. Opening hours Monday to Friday 10am to 6pm and Saturday 10am to 4pm.
