Creative Christmas Shopping for Craft

Craft is the perfect gift if you are looking for something original and unique and across Scotland galleries and shops have an exciting selection by Scottish designer makers.

‘Christmas Present’, open until 22 December at the Collins Gallery in Glasgow, has work by over 50 makers from across the UK including jewellery, ceramics, textiles, scarves, bags, wood, lamps and textile panels by members of EDGE.  Prices range from £5 to £400.  Also in Glasgow the Roger Billcliffe Gallery has jewellery, ceramics, silver and wood by 70 British designer-makers.

A Christmas Exhibition at the Park Gallery in Falkirk includes a wide range of jewellery, scarves, bags, paintings, ceramics and knitted accessories from over 20 makers including interior textiles designer Clare Nicholson and jeweller Emily Bechmann, who creates collars and cuffs with found objects stitched into lace. 

In St Andrews at the Crawford Art Centre there is jewellery by Dot Sim and Zelda Wong, textile covered books and cushions by Ondine Smith, wire and beadwork home accessories Jennifer Morton and ceramics by Frances Ford.

At Dundee Contemporary Arts the shop offers a wide selection of jewellery, ceramics, wood, glass, metalwork, textiles, books and cutting edge design. 

In the Highlands and Islands the shops at the Bonhoga Gallery on Shetland, An Tuireann on Skye, An Tobar on the Isle of Mull and Taigh Chearsabhagh on North Uist all have a variety of craft for sale.

In Edinburgh the Scottish Gallery has a range of gifts and an exhibition of new jewellery by Andrew Lamb while at the Open Eye Gallery there is a show of new work by jeweller Natalie Vardey.

Velvet Boutique will be holding a Christmas Design Fair in Edinburgh on Sunday 18 December 2005 offering a chance to buy fashion and home accessories by emerging Scottish designers including knitted and felted scarves, jewellery, cushions by Clare Nicholson, cashmere clothing, handbags and interior textiles.  Work by the designers can also be bought at Velvet Boutique online.
