Orkney Weaver Wins International Award
23 December 2005

Weaver Carol Dunbar has won an award for her tapestry 'such terribly gentle work...' at the international exhibition of woven tapestry, Karpit2, held in Hungary.

Carol, who lives and works in Orkney,  has been a tapestry weaver and teacher for over twenty years.  She trained at Edinburgh College of Art.

She explains her work “The themes that form the basis of my work have to do with how we understand ourselves and our surroundings, and with the ways in which what appears on the surface may not necessarily be what lies underneath. These are enduring themes that we can all relate to. We make assumptions, as we must, about ourselves and our environment, but it is often beneficial to look more closely at what seems most familiar.”

She received a bursary from the Theo Moorman Trust for the work.
