Fife Makers Open Studios in May
27 April 2006

A group of makers, artists and designers in North Fife will hold their first open studios event on the 6 and 7 May 2006.

Open Studios Fife is an opportunity to see makers at work, discuss their methods and their inspirations and perhaps buy some of their work.

In Auchtermuchty participating makers include Caroline King who creates jewellery inspired by her materials which include gold, silver, mother of pearl, pearls and tortoiseshell, Alison Strachan who makes mirrors from softwood, Lucy Turner of Lucymoose bags who designs bags with recycled fabrics, blacksmith Jim Shears who produces gates, fences and candelabra and Frank Michael who constructs mixed media boxes.

Textile artist Marianne Lines, based in Collessie, creates wall hangings inspired by Pictish and Celtic carved stones using natural dyes.

In Gauldry stained glass artist Liz Rowley restores old windows and makes contemporary kiln formed pieces.

Dot Sim in Newport on Tay designs precious metal jewellery inspired by starry skies, changing landscapes and stormy seas.

The organisers, Lucy Turner and Alison Strachan, hope this will become an annual event.  Visit their website to find out more about the participating makers or request a brochure.

This is the first in a chain of open studio events which will be taking across Scotland during the next six months.
