Triple Win in Tahitian Pearl Competition
27 June 2006

Jeweller Lilian Busch will this year compete in the international Tahitian Pearl Trophy competition in Italy following her success in winning three categories in the UK heat of the contest last year.

She won first prize in the categories of bracelet, necklace and pearl row, and will now compete with other winning designers from 20 different countries in October to win the international trophy which celebrates the Tahitian pearl.

Lillan, who trained in London, was born in Denmark and has lived in Jedburgh for the past three years.  Talking about her success she says “I had a good feeling about the competition and to win in all three categories was really great.  Tahitian pearls are some of the most expensive in the world and are absolutely beautiful to work with.”

As a young girl Lilian was fascinated by Danish jeweller Ingeborg Mølsted, who was a friend of her mother.  When they visited Ingeborg would sit in her garden in a seaside village in Denmark with a wicker basket containing her tools and materials working with silver wire and creating intricate designs.

This early experience inspired Lilian to become a jeweller.  In her work she likes to explore contrast and tension such as a sparkling diamond on a rusty metal or a rough surface next to a highly polished edge.
