A new exhibition at the Museum of Scotland, Reflections – A Decade of North Lands Creative Glass, marks the tenth anniversary of North Lands Creative Glass in Lybster.
The exhibition features over 60 works by internationally acclaimed glass makers who have led master classes, held artistic residencies, or studied at the centre, which is now recognised across the world as one of the leading centres of excellence for contemporary glass. Many of the makers have been inspired by the magical Caithness light, land and seascapes.
The exhibition includes work by artists from countries including the UK, Germany, Japan, France, South Africa, Korea, Australia, New Zealand, Sweden, the Netherlands and the Czech Republic.
In addition to work representing each of the ten years there is work by the makers who have been artistic directors of North Lands Creative Glass – Denis Mann, Peter Aldridge, Jane Bruce, Keith Cummings, Tessa Clegg and Elizabeth Swinburne.
The pieces in the exhibition include a puffin head form in blown glass by Danish glass artist Lotte Thorsoe, a polished boat form suspended on two wires in a cast iron framework by Bertil Vallien, glass teapots by US artist Richard Marquis and a blown and flat glass sculpture in Amber and clear glass by Scottish artist Ray Flavell, technical director and founder member of North Lands.
The exhibition is open at the Museum of Scotland, Chambers Street, Edinburgh EH1 1JF tel: 0131 247 4422 from 21 July 2006 to 7 January 2007. Opening hours daily from 10am to 5pm. Admission free. Read our craftscotland review of the exhibition.
