Graduates Join Dorothy Hogg in Kyoto Exhibition
10 January 2007

An exhibition of work by Dorothy Hogg, course leader of jewellery and silversmithing at Edinburgh College of Art, and a group of her students, is being held at the Museum of Kyoto in Japan during January.

The recent graduates and former students who are exhibiting with her are Donna Barry, Jenny Deans, Carla Edwards, Emma Gale, Grace Girvan, Katy Hackney, Chiaki Kamikawa, Sarah Kettley, Andrew Lamb, Grainne Morton, Hannah Simpson, Catriona Stevenson and Naoko Yoshizawa.

The gallery, an initiative by Ruta Noreika and Takahiro Kondo, opened last year and aims to develop cross-cultural contacts and support for younger and emerging jewellers.  This concept is one supported by Dorothy who wants to make the professional world more accessible to her current students than it was to her generation.

Dorothy, who trained at Glasgow School of Art and the Royal College of Art, has been course leader since 1985 and in 2001 was awarded an MBE for services to jewellery and silversmithing.  In 2005 she won the Brilliantly Birmingham Jewellery Award which is awarded to the jeweller who has made the greatest contribution to the world of designer-maker jewellery.

Last year the Museum of Art and Design in New York purchased a piece of her work for their collection.  In July she was invited to become an Honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Art and she was also awarded a prize in an exhibition in America.

The exhibition is on at the Museum of Kyoto (Kyoto Bunka Hakubutsukan) from 6 to 21 January 2007.
