Pushing the Boundaries, an exhibition by the Scottish Basketmakers Circle exploring the creative potential of weaving, opens in Dumfries this week with a reception and masterclass.

The landscape of southwest Scotland provides an inspirational setting for a number of contemporary Scottish basketmakers including Lizzie Farey and Trevor Leat, who are exhibiting in the show alongside makers from all across Scotland as well as England, Denmark and New Zealand.
The 'willow friendly' region of Dumfries & Galloway is holding a series of events to celebrate starting with the exhibition opening preview on 10 February 2007 between 2 and 5pm. Everyone - whether new to working with willow, have worked with it previously or are more experienced is invited to 'Weave and Wine', a chance to learn and exchange skills, knowledge and experience in the company of exhibitors and members of the Scottish Basketmakers Circle. Anna King will be giving a gallery talk at 3pm introducing works and discussing contemporary practice. A free event and all over a glass of wine.
Anna King returns to the region to deliver a craft master class on Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 March 2007 from 10am to 4.30pm. Pushing Your Own Boundaries offers participants the opportunity to experiment with unfamiliar materials, to look at different structures, explore spatial relations and containment and appreciate past traditions and build on it. The cost is £60 (£50 conc) and includes basic materials, tea and coffee throughout the day.
