Fragments of Light in Aurora Exhibition
05 March 2007

Aurora, a collection of new work by glass artist Keiko Mukaide is one of a trio of exhibitions that have opened at the Scottish Gallery in Edinburgh.

This new group of work by Keiko explores the sense of light as a fragile, fleeting moment; particularly the Northern light valued so much after long hours of winter darkness.  Through subtle manipulation of tiny fragments of dichroic glass rhythmically embedded in wood or glass panels she creates richly dynamic abstract images and a shifting world of colour, space and light.

Alongside this exhibition is Scottish Islands, a selection of work by six artists from or based on the Scottish islands of Orkney, Isle of Skye and Isle of Arran.  The show includes textiles by Carol Dunbar and Tait & Style, ceramics by Maggie Zeraafa and John Struthers, jewellery by Grace Girvan and turned wood by Ruth Mae.

The third exhibition is Vessels for Spring made from a variety of media.  The group includes glass and silver by Dot Sim, ceramics by Stephen Bird and Rupert Spira, glass by Bob Crooks and Steven Newell, wood by Jim Partridge and silver by Grant McCaig.

All three exhibitions are open from 5 to 28 March 2007 at the Scottish Gallery, 16 Dundas Street, Edinburgh EH3 6HZ.  Open Monday to Friday 10am to 6pm and Saturday 10am to 4pm.
