The deadline for applications to North Lands Creative Glass 2007 International masterclass programme is fast approaching.

The masterclasses take place in July, August and September in Lybster and will be led by Silvia Levenson, Clifford Rainey, Emma Woffenden assisted by Gareth Noel Williams, Judith Schaechter and Einar and Jamex de la Torre with the annual conference entitled 'Expression of Self' being held on 1 and 2 September 2007. 

The masterclass programme launches on 30 June to 8 July with 'Place and Identity', a kiln forming masterclass with Silvia Levenson using Bullseye glass to examine the meaning of 'place' & 'feeling at home'.

From 22 to 30 August: 'A Philosophical Approach to Kiln Casting', masterclass with Clifford Rainey exploring the process of kiln casting glass and its relevance to the meaning of life.

This is followed by 25 to 30 August: 'Nature and Self', hot glass masterclass led by Emma Woffenden focusing on an international exploration of the 'self', and assisted by Gareth Noel Wiliams to help realise ideas in hot glass.

Then from 4 to 12 September: 'Glass and Image' masterclass with Judith Schaechter investigating the qualities of stained glass, which makes it so compelling a medium of artistic expression.  On the same dates, 'Accomplished Schizophrenia (developing multiple voices visually)', is a masterclass with Einar and Jamex de la Torre exploring the most direct path to self-expression using hot glass sculpture.

The two day North Lands Annual International Conference entitled 'The Expression of Self' will be held on 1 and 2 September 2007.  Speakers will include Masterclass leaders (excluding Silvia Levenson), Dr Martin Conway, Director of the Institute of Psychological Science at the University of Leeds and the leader of Leeds Memory Group, Shona Illingworth, discussing her current project, Ashley Page OBE will explore the dynamic relationship between choreographer and artist and Bruno Romanelli, will discuss how figurative work has changed over the past few years. There will also be a hot shop demonstration by Gareth Noel Williams.

Applications for Masterclasses received by 31 March 2007 will enter the initial jury round.  Further applications will be considered after this deadline should a class have spaces remaining, but the most popular classes are frequently filled by the initial round of applications.
