Creativity Shines at 2007 Degree Shows
14 June 2007

Creativity is in the air across Scotland as Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow welcome the 2007 Degree Shows opening on 16 June 2007.

View our craftscotland previews of work in the 2007 Degree Shows at Gray's School of Art, Edinburgh College of Art and Glasgow School of Art.

The Degree Shows provide an ideal opportunity to view, buy or commission the original and often unconventional work of the best emerging talent.

Washington Bepete, a graduate in three dimensional design at Robert Gordon University, Gray’s School of Art in Aberdeen, has been exploring the concept of happiness.  He is concerned with the beauty of the feelings or the mental activity that yields happiness and explains “My investigation focuses on exploring the concept of happiness and how people derive it. Challenged to visually illustrate happiness, how and what do they express? My task is to collect their ideas and represent them by way of three dimensional vessels in earthenware, stoneware and porcelain."

Around 20,000 visitors are expected to visit the Degree Show at Glasgow School of Art where the show includes textiles, ceramics and jewellery.  Amongst the graduates this year is Karen Simpson, who was chosen at Young Silversmith Designer of the Year by the Goldsmiths’ Company in 2005.

At Edinburgh College of Art works by over 400 students across twenty three art, design and architecture specialisms will be on display throughout the College, which is temporarily transformed into an enormous exhibition space.  Work includes textiles, ceramics, glass and jewellery.
