The freshest young design talent from Scotland’s art colleges will be showing their work at New Designers 2007 which opens in London on 5 July 2007.
The exhibition presents new ideas in fashion, furniture, textiles, glass, ceramics and jewellery by graduates from across the UK and Scotland is represented by Duncan of Jordanstone, Edinburgh College of Art, Gray’s School of Art, Glasgow School of Art and Heriot Watt University.
Alongside the graduate exhibition is One Year On, which showcases selected designers at the forefront of design who have been in business for just a year.
Invited to take part this year is Scottish designer Helen Gallogly who is based in Newport on Tay in Fife. Helen, who graduated in textile design in 2002 from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design in Dundee, was recently awarded PSYBT development funding for her business.
This showcase will be the platform for her to launch her new three panel interior screens. The screens are made using gloss inks on white cotton satin, with the imagery hand drawn and the fabric also embroidered after printing.
The inspiration behind the designs come from Victorian wallpapers, 17th/18th century textile designers, scrapbooks and botanical illustrations. Helen explains "They are about remembering traditional techniques, while accenting the nostalgia with contemporary finishes, such as metallic and pearlecent dyes. "
As well as screens her range includes furniture throws and chair coverings and recent clients include Tigerprint.
