An International Paper Jewellery exhibition at the Scottish Gallery in Edinburgh shows work by fifteen of international jewellers and object makers.
Included in the group are Susan Cross, Clare Hillerby, Nel Linssen, Hannah Lobley, Angela O'Kelly, Jacqueline Parry, Wendy Ramshaw, Janno Syvanoja, David Watkins, Fiona Wright and Naoko Yoshizawa. In addition, Ruta Noreika helped to source a group of Japanese jewellers including Nahoko Fujimoto, Kazumi Nagano, Kaoru Nakano and Michihiro Sato.
Dutch jeweller Nel Linssen explains “I am continually trying to discover logical constructions, inspired by rhythms and structures in the botanical world.
“In the development of my ideas the use of paper as a means of expressing myself was an obvious choice. As a material, it possesses a lot of qualities that come in useful to me. Moreover, the tactile qualities of paper are important in connection with wearable objects.”
UK jeweller Fiona Wright makes wearable structures from the Financial Times and Evening Standard.
The International Paper Jewellery exhibition is on at the Scottish Gallery, 16 Dundas Street, Edinburgh, EH3 6HZ from 6 February to 5 March 2008. Open Monday to Friday 10am to 6pm and Saturday
