Award for Simon Ward at World Ceramic Biennale in Korea
25 May 2009

Ceramicist Simon Ward received a special award at the 5th World Ceramic Biennale 2009 Korea(CEBIKO) International Competition for his work “there’s still life”.

He explains “This work follows a current theme in my work that focuses on the ordinary, mundane of everyday; specifically tools used in dining. With the focus being to elevate these everyday utensils to a function that is purely visual but still engaging the audience through the questioning of their current or past use.”

This grand-scale international event showing the world's finest ceramic artists focuses on defining new values and creative direction for the 21st century ceramic arts.  The Biennale is the most prestigious ceramics event in the world and the international competition exhibition takes place between 25 April and 21 June 2009.   Over 1,500 artists apply to take part with only 200 invited to exhibit.

Simon, who lectures at Gray’s School of Art in Aberdeen, studied ceramics at South Glamorgan Institute of Higher Education and the Royal College of Art and has exhibited in galleries and museums throughout the UK as well as internationally.  He won the bronze award at the 3rd World Ceramic Biennale.
