| 07 June 2009 Work by Scottish glass artist Nichola Burns has been selected for inclusion in the 30th edition of New Glass Review (Neues Glas), the prestigious annual selection of the best works in glass worldwide The work, Tribal in White I & II, based on her study of tribal relationships and identity, is part of a 100 glass artwork comprehensive study put out each year by the Corning Museum of Glass, USA. This year 1,047 individual artists from 44 countries submitted a total of 2,974 images for selection by the judges who included glass artists Meike Groot and Dante Marioni along with head of the Rhode Island School of Design glass program, Rachel Berwick, and Corning Museum of Glass Tina Oldknow, Curator of Modern Glass, USA. The works selected were considered excellent from several view points such as function, subject matter, aesthetics and technique. Juror Dante Marioni said "There is no shame in making something well. The true challenge lies in creating something thoughtful and original. I am happy to say that New Glass Review30 displays 100 examples that continue to advance the medium, both technically and artistically." “I am delighted to have been chosen for inclusion alongside many of my favourite artists and many who I have admired since a student in glass" commented Tain-based Nicky. "It really is nice that even although I am tucked away in The Highlands my work continues to have national and international interest which is a lovely compliment."
