Textile designer Fiona McIntosh launched her own business, Tessuti Printed Textiles, in 1985 after graduating from the Scottish College of Textiles in Galashiels. The company specialises in hand silk screening onto the natural fabrics of silk, cotton and velvet to create fashion accessories and interior pieces.
Her designs utilise the highly skilled printing methods of discharge and devoré to create fabrics with rich, vibrant colours which retain the character of the silk and velvet.
As well as many individual commissions – including designing the official Edinburgh International Festival scarf on three occasions - she has her own ranges of textile designs. She launched the popular Faux (or ‘fake’) Fabrics range three years ago. In this she places one texture onto another so the fabric takes on the appearance of leather, wood, corrugated iron, hair, wicker, marble or sheepskin.
In addition to fabrics for interiors, she uses her different design ranges to produce felted wool scarves, silk and wool scarves, chiffon and cashmere scarves.
In 2000 she completed the Archangels metalwork course for women, and has combined these skills with her fabric design to create limited edition interior pieces.
She is part of designED, a collective of designers based in Edinburgh, who have exhibited in Stockholm and Frankfurt and are showing in Sweden in November 2005.
