What book are you reading just now?

I love reading and always have several on the go.   At the moment I’m reading Isabella by Alison Weir, Leonard’s Notebooks, a Peter Robinson novel and The Mind in the Cave. 

What was the last film you saw?

Pirates of the Carribean part two – rattling good, loved it, can’t wait for part 3.

What is your favourite place in Scotland?

Temple Wood in Argyllshire

What is your favourite country?

I love Japan, France, the States, especially the desert states of the South West, and Scotland.  Everywhere I’ve been I’ve found something that struck a cord, that I responded to, such as the landscape in Australia with amazing forests but trees that are alien to us and amazing birds that you can’t see anywhere else.

Do any particular materials inspire you?

The scent of pine needles, fibres for string, and I love jute - it taught me to appreciate a mundane fibre.

What technique do you most enjoy?

No matter what I’m doing I always come back to weaving.  The simple rhythmical slow way of working gives me peace.

Whose work inspires you?

The Polish textile artist Magdalena Abakanowicz, glass artist Bertil Vallien, ceramicist Takehiro Kondo, artist Rebecca Horne, basketmaker Hisako Sekijima and glass artist Toots Zynsky who ‘draws with glass’.
