It is important to recognise that these area descriptors have to be useful and broadly recognisable and not so detailed or numerous as to be meaningless to people from outside Scotland. Council areas are useful as a guideline, in combination with some tourism-related areas, so the areas outlined here are to be used. Note that: the Highlands includes Skye, Aberdeen and Grampian includes Moray, Argyllshire and Stirling includes Bute, Loch Lomond area and Clackmannanshire, Greater Glasgow and Clyde Valley includes Lanarkshire, South West Scotland includes Dumfries & Galloway, Ayrshire and Arran.
