Brodie Nairn - Glass
Brodie Nairn trained at Gray's School of Art in Aberdeen and the International Glass Centre in England.
He returned to Scotland in 2002 after a decade of making glass in Switzerland, the Netherlands, Germany and United States. During this time he worked with many of the leading glass designers/makers within Europe and the USA most notably Philip Baldwin and Monica Guggisberg, Michael Kramer and Richard Price.
In his recent work he explores tension and balance. He contrasts outer surfaces with inner shapes, sensual curves with hard edges. He calls the original blown a 'pod' and, with this organic image in mind he cuts through the glass to reveal its structure. This dissected work creates a window into another world where dancing curves and open spaces contrast and unite.
In 2005 he set up Glasstorm, a contemporary glass studio and gallery in Tain with glass artist Nichola Burns. An exhibition of his work opens there in October 2006 and the Glasstorm range will be showcased at Form in The Lighthouse in Glasgow during August 2006 and in ‘gifted’ at the Royal Museum in Edinburgh from 24 November to 21 January 2007.
