Carla Edwards – Non Precious Jewellery

Carla is interested in using colour and translucency to play with light. She works in polyester resin mixed with other materials such as acrylic, paper, gold, silver and aluminium (in wire, sheet and leaf form).

By developing ways of introducing and layering colour and materials she exploits the translucent qualities of the resin. Layering other materials into the resin adds a depth of colour, decorative pattern or a “drawn line” effect depending on the piece. The finish is very important to her because it can drastically alter the way a piece appears and feels.

She graduated from Edinburgh College of Art in 1998. Her jewellery is sold in galleries and shops across the UK, including An Tuireann on the Isle of Skye. In Europe her work can be seen in galleries in Delft, Amsterdam, Portugal and France.

She has exhibited work in the Glasgow Print Studio, Dundee Contemporary Arts, Strathearn Gallery, Scottish Gallery, Sotheby’s in London, Bluecoat Display Centre, Ruskin Gallery, Cleveland Craft Centre and Chelsea Crafts Fair.
