Caroline Dear - Sculptural Forms

Trained in architecture in Dublin and Hull and worked as an architect and landscape architect before focusing full time on art.

Her work is the result of detailed observation and enquiry into the world around her.  From an understanding of the balance and flow within nature she explores our relationship with the natural world and the subtle connections between our inner selves and the outer physical landscape.

She starts by making images of the marks on the landscape and this is slowly developed, honing down the intangible essence of a place and the instrinsic fundamentals of sea, rock and earth.  She uses local plants in the same way, creating simple forms with resonance.  She uses various materials and work ranges from books to sculptural installations.

She sells her work through her studio on the Isle of Skye and through exhibitions.

Earlier this year she completed a residency on the Brahan Estate near Dingwall as part of the Big Willlow event.

She is showing in Pushing the Boundaries, an exhibition of contemporary basketmaking, currently touring the Highlands, and recently received a HI-Arts grant toward production of work for Kunst-hand-fest Barnitz in Germany.
