London Craft Week, a brand new initiative that positions makers centre stage of the world’s creative capital will open on Wednesday, 6 May 2015. The event will bring together an unparalleled public programme celebrating craftsmanship across the city, where hidden spaces and little-known makers will be revealed alongside celebrated galleries and luxury brands.
SOFA Chicago, the world's premier art fair dedicated to Sculpture, Objects, Functional Art and Design will be opening its doors for the 21st time next week. Thousands of works from nearly 70 galleries will be on show, inlcuding a range of work by Scottish-based makers, not just on Craft Scotland's own stand.
From Friday 24 to Monday 27 October the Haining will showcase 'Haining At Home'; an exhibition of some of the Scottish Border's finest applied arts. To coincide with the exhibition, the Haining will host a Meet Your Maker event offering demonstrations of screen printing, stone carving and wooden spoon making as part this impressive event.
This month's round-up brings you a last-minute opportunity to apply for the Crafts Council's invaluable business support and creative development programme. The deadline for applications is 5pm on Monday 20 October, and we are delighted to be offering six places for Scottish-based makers.
Tenement House will host a Meet Your Maker event on Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 October, offering visitors the chance to experience the Make do and Mend ethos of the building's former resident under the expert guidance of upcycling artist Donna Jamieson.

Culzean Castle will host a Meet Your Maker event on Monday 13, Tuesday 14 and Wednesday 15 October, to coincide with their Big Draw event. During Meet Your Maker at Culzean Castle, visitors will have the chance to peek behind the scenes at the willow work of David Powell, and the stained glass creations of Sue Wilkinson.
Over the weekend of Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 October, Bonhoga Gallery in Shetland will host textile artist Jen Deschenes for the Gallery's second Meet Your Maker event of 2014.
Saturday 04 and Sunday 05 October will be October Felt Weekend at Borders Textile Towerhouse. As part of the celebrations, they will host two feltmakers, Ewa Kuniczak and Ann Ross, for a Meet Your Maker event offering visitors a behind-the-scenes look at the practice of two textile artists.

We are also announcing two exciting new opportunities that have stemmed from our partnerships with the Crafts Council and the National Trust for Scotland. We can now offer six Scottish-based makers a place on the Craft Council’s prestigious Hothouse programme, with full details of how to apply below. We are also offering makers the opportunity to apply to create a unique collection of work that will retail in selected National Trust for Scotland properties.

Coinciding with the annual North East Open Studios (NEOS) event, Touched by Scotland will host a Meet Your Maker event on Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 September. The event will offer visitors a rare, behind the scenes look at the work of two makers: Susan Connon, a bookbinder, and Carol Meldrum, a textile artist.
Sheila Kerr is a jewellery designer/maker who specialises in the design and manufacture of precious metal jewellery. Sheila works from her Harbourside studio in Irvine, Ayrshire which overlooks Irvine bay.
