Friday Craft Film - The Eagleman Stag

To celebrate the Edinburgh International Film Festival (which takes place 20 June - 01 July), this month our craft films all have a cinematic theme to them, and will feature crafted characters, props and sets.

Our featured film this week is 'The Eagleman Stag,' a BAFTA award winning short from director/writer Mikey Please.

Animated in monochrome stopmotion, the film consists of 115 separate sets made mostly of a "mysterious white material, not previously know to have been used for stopmotion animation, found in the back of a cushion".

Featured below first is the beautiful animation itself, and further down the page is a wonderful 'making of' film, taking you behind the scenes as the set and characters are created.

Get involved

If you have an online craft film you would like to share, we would love to hear from you. We're looking for films that showcase craft makers, special craft projects/exhibitions, enterprises, or other fun and quirky films that help to celebrate craft.

It could be a film of you at work, a narrated film about the inspiration behind your craft, a film made for an exhibition, or something else.

Just email laura@craftscotland.org with the following details:

  • A short description of the film, including any credits
  • A link to the film on YouTube, Vimeo, or another channel
  • Whether or not you have a profile page on Craft Scotland

You do not need to be on the Craft Scotland site to send us your films, but films about Scottish craft, makers and places will be given priority.

Alternatively, you can tweet a link to your craft film to @craftscotland.

Please note: at this stage we are not looking for instructional, 'how to' type videos for this feature.
