Craft Scotland are delighted to announce the appointment of new team member Maria Cadenas.
Maria will work with Craft Scotland on a six-month placement to research the context and market potential of the Spanish craft sector in relation to Scottish craft.
Maria, who is studying towards an MA in Cultural Management with the University of Catalonia, joined us on a voluntary basis before Christmas. She worked with and assisted the team whilst learning about Craft Scotland and our work, before receiving a Leonardo Da Vinci grant at the turn of the year to concentrate on the research project.
Maria’s investigation explores the differences between Scottish and Spanish craft sectors including how they are resourced, supported and promoted; the political contexts; and the potential for Craft Scotland and Scottish craft to develop opportunities in Spain. The project looks at the country through a national and a local lens, with data being gathered from seventeen regions across the mainland, Balearics and Canary Islands.
Originally from Mallorca, Maria’s background is in journalism. She has worked in TV (Television Espanola), print media (La Gaceta de Salamanca newspaper) and also within the largest private news agency in Spain, Europa Press.
Maria is working with us until June. If you have any experiences of Spanish craft you would like to share, or if you would like to welcome her to the Scottish craft sector, please email her at info@craftscotland.org
