Craft Scotland preview for SOFA Chicago

We hope you enjoy the first film produced in-house by Craft Scotland: our SOFA Chicago preview film.

This film showcases the makers and work we will take to the show, and is introduced by Emma Walker, Craft Scotland CEO.

About the film

Laura and Jo toured Scotland earlier in the summer to meet the makers taking part in the show. This film shows snippets from each maker as they prepare for the show, inside (and outside) their diverse studios.

The aim of the film was to show the extraordinary craft being produced for SOFA by the talented makers selected. We also wanted to demonstrate the character of the landscape, the sounds of the studios, the inspiration and processes behind the craft, and the diversity of our makers.

Emma introduces the film and also lends her voice to images of Rebecca Wilson's work, as Rebecca was unable to take part in the filming.

The film was lo-fi and intimate, filmed on a simple MiniDV HD cam with a basic mic to capture as much of the sounds and processes as possible. It was shot and edited by Laura, with Jo interviewing each of the makers taking part and co-ordinating the shoot. The equipment we used for the piece was purchased with our AmbITion funding from Creative Scotland.

We aim to follow the preview with further portraits of the makers taking part in SOFA Chicago, and also for the makers we will take to New York next year.
