Friday Craft Film - Torcher Tailor

Our Friday Film this week is 'Torcher Tailor', the second performance from Torcher Chamber Arkestra.

Torcher Chamber Arkestra is a flameworking performance company, which was founded in 2010 by artist and chief conductor Carrie Fertig and is comprised of artists from sculptural, neon, scientific, and bead flameworked glass backgrounds. Torcher Chamber Arkestra combines fire, glass, music, and explosives to educate, engage and entertain.

The film was recorded on Saturday, August 25 2012, at the International Festival of Glass in Stourbridge. 'Torcher Tailor' explores the theme of Union: marital, political, and social, as Torcher Chamber Arkestra build a glass wedding dress live on a bride.

Watch Torcher Chamber Arkestra in action:

Featuring original music by Alistair MacDonald (Royal Conservatoire of Scotland), Juliette MacDonald (Edinburgh College of Art) and Phil Mason (Glasgow University). Bride is sculptor Jessica Ramm (Edinburgh). Flameworkers: Diana East, Carrie Fertig (Edinburgh), Zoe Garner, James Lethbridge, Sabine Little, Yi (Pearl) Peng, Ayako Tani, & Sean Taylor (Glasgow). Patty Niemann (Lybster) shot the video.

Get involved

If you have an online craft film you would like to share, we would love to hear from you. We're looking for films that showcase craft makers, special craft projects/exhibitions, enterprises, or other fun and quirky films that help to celebrate craft.

It could be a film of you at work, a narrated film about the inspiration behind your craft, a film made for an exhibition, or something else.

Just email laura@craftscotland.org with the following details:

  • A short description of the film, including any credits
  • A link to the film on YouTube, Vimeo, or another channel
  • Whether or not you have a profile page on Craft Scotland

You do not need to be on the Craft Scotland site to send us your films, but films about Scottish craft, makers and places will be given priority.

Alternatively, you can tweet a link to your craft film to @craftscotland.

Please note: at this stage we are not looking for instructional, 'how to' type videos for this feature.
