Collaborations are Inside Out at the Lighthouse
03 April 2006

Eight Velvet Boutique designers working in different disciplines, including fashion, jewellery and textiles were partnered to collaborate on an experimental showpiece with the concept of Inside Out for an exhibition at the Lighthouse.

Using the concept ‘inside out’, each design team was asked to explore the design process and address the notion of ‘wearable design’.

Collaborations include Alison Murray of Everything Is Pattern and Francesca Pollock of Never The Same Twice, Claire Ferguson and Clare Nicolson, Lorraine Linton of Into and Niki Taylor of Olanic and Lorraine McCue with Laura McIver.

Alison Murray and fashion designer Francesca Pollock collaborated to create a virtually designed 'print a dress'. Combining digital printing, engineering design and prototyping techniques they have created a one-off exhibition piece inspired by vintage patterns and digital design techniques.

Through the design development they explored the fusion of traditional skills such as sketching and toile creation and the use of digital technology in textile design and garment construction.

Velvet Boutique promotes the work of designers across Scotland, supporting emerging and established designers by providing a platform to present and sell their work.

The exhibition is on from 8 April to 4 June 2006 in the Review Gallery, Level 1, The Lighthouse, 11 Mitchell Lane, Glasgow G1 3NU.  Opening Hours Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday 10.30am to 5pm, Tuesday 11am to 5pm and Sunday 12 noon to 5pm.   Entrance costs: Adult - £3.00 Child/youth up to 16 - £1.00, Student with Identification - £1.50, Unwaged - £1.50, Pensioner - £1.50.  A selection of products by Velvet Boutique designers is available to buy in form, the Lighthouse Shop.
