Local makers and artists across the north east of Scotland open their doors for the third North East Open Studios event from 16 to 24 September 2006.
This year 141 studios, workshops and exhibition venues are participating including furniture designers, ceramicists, glass artists, jewellers and textile artists.
The event has gone from strength to strength since its launch and it has helped small businesses to grow in a rural area by creating an opportunity for visitors to visit their studios and buy their work.
One of the participants is ceramicist Morag Sutherland who is based at Torphins‚ by Banchory in Aberdeenshire. Morag, a graduate of Edinburgh College of Art, creates figures which comment on the individual within society‚ the person who stands out in a crowd. By exploiting the quirks and eccentricities of a person she celebrates the difference in all of us. She works in earthenware and paper clay which allows her to draw with the clay and create intricate and spontaneous work.
