Recent graduate jeweller David Goodwin makes his debut at Goldsmiths’ Fair in London this week alongside eight other Scottish silversmiths and jewellers.
As well as David, Scotland will be represented by silversmiths Graham Stewart, Shimara Carlow, Sarah Hutchison, Bryony Knox and Adrian Hope as well as jewellers Eric N Smith, Craig Stuart and Andrew Lamb.
David is one of five graduates given a free stand as part of an on-going programme to encourage and promote emerging new talent. A graduate of Glasgow School of Art, he has recently completed an MA degree at the Royal College of Art. In his work he uses computer aided design and rapid prototyping to create jewellery inspired by geometrical wire-frame forms in man made and natural objects.
Silversmith Bryony Knox, who recently moved back to Scotland, originally studied at Glasgow School of Art. She designs sculptures and silverware with a twist many of them based on weird and wonderful creatures of myth and fable. Each of her pieces, from decanters to boxes with secrets, is fashioned and embellished using the techniques of repoussé and chasing.
The 24th Goldsmiths’ Fair featuring ninety leading UK designer-makers takes place at Goldsmiths’ Hall, Foster Lane, London EC2V 6BN from 2 to 8 October 2006. Admission by catalogue at £6. Opening hours Monday to Friday 11am to 7pm and Saturday and Sunday 10am to 6pm.
In 2007 Goldsmiths’ Fair celebrates its 25th silver anniversary and in recognition of this occasion it will extend to two weeks with week 1 from September 24 to 30 and week 2 from October 2 to 7 2007.
