Cove Park Launches New Scottish Residency
01 March 2007

Cove Park is for the first time offering a three month residency specifically for a Scottish craftsperson in addition to launching their second silversmithing and jewellery residency.

Situated in a stunning location on the Rosneath peninsula in the west of Scotland, Cove Park is an international centre which supports and promotes the work of artists on residency.

Artists and makers find the experience of spending time living and working at Cove Park an inspiration.  Last year Alex Ramsay was selected for the first silversmithing and jewellery residency and she she found the experience had huge impact on both her creative process and on her confidence.

She walked the local paths and roads daily, and used the landscape around Cove Park - its particular details of materials such as wool caught in a fence, rusting machinery, iridescent shell flakes - in a very direct way, combining it thoughtfully with the more traditionally materials of silversmithing.

Talking about her experience she said “The residency enabled me to focus on my practice and to reflect on where I have been, and where I want to be. It was a very precious month that allowed lots of quiet contemplation and reflecting. It also renewed my enthusiasm for experimentation and playful making – and the response to the work I produced has been very encouraging in this area.

“The effect of my residency has been profound, and feels like a real turning point in my practice and how I see myself as a silversmith.”

The application deadline for Cove Park’s second silversmithing and jewellery residency is 23 April 2007. The application deadline for the two major three month craft residencies, one specifically for a Scottish craftsperson, is 16 March 2007.  For more information visit www.covepark.org
