Dazzle, a selling exhibition of contemporary jewellery by over 50 leading and emerging designers from across the UK, opens in Glasgow in April.
Young Scottish designers who will be selling work at the event for the first time include Jonathan Boyd, Gemma Hopkins, Hannah Simpson and Abigail Percy.
Jonathan, who graduated from Glasgow School of Art in 2006, was chosen from 2,000 graduates at New Designers in London last year as runner up Designer of the Year for his work looking at personal anti-war sentiments. Since then his work has started to reflect on personal loss, memory and remembrance, mostly in brooch form.
Cathedrals, bridges and interesting architecture are the inspiration for Gemma, also a 2006 Glasgow School of Art graduate, who experiments with metal to form interesting shapes.
Edinburgh College of Art graduate Hannah creates floral themed silver necklaces, earring and rings combined with semi precious beads and pearls.
Abigail graduated from Glasgow School of Art in 2005 and completed her first year of business last year, winning the British Jewellery Association Award for One Year On prize last summer at New Designers. Her organically inspired jewellery includes hand pierced silhouettes in carved faux ivory with semi precious stones, beads and pearls.
Edinburgh jeweller Grainne Morton, who is also exhibiting, was shortlisted for the prestigious £30,000 Jerwood Applied Arts Prize which will be announced in June 2007.
Dazzle is on from 22 April to 6 May in the Merchant Square, 71-73 Albion Street, Merchant City, Glasgow G1 1RB. Open Monday to Saturday 10am to 6pm and Sunday 11am to 5pm. Admission free. Find out more at www.zone-d.com
