About Jimmy Trainor - Irvine Glass Craft

Personal Statement

The glass artist, Jimmy Trainor was born in Glasgow. He has been manipulating glass for over 30 years and during this time he has had the opportunity to work in various locations within Europe, North America and Canada. He is now based back in Scotland within the west coastal town of Irvine in a small purpose built studio.

A particular gift item which has become a favourite with overseas visitors is his glass thistle.

The thistle is an original design. It is made of high quality borosilicate glass which is hand sculptured using only a pair of long nosed pliers to assist in the shaping of the leaves. It is approximately 5 inches tall (127mm). It is then hand painted using a heat hardening transparent glass paint to enhance the detailed features of the thistle.

Year Established: May 2010
