About Me

Personal Statement

JAC Woodworks is a small traditional cabinetmaking business located in Bernisdale; about eight miles North of Portree on the Isle of Skye. We produce unique furniture of the highest quality to suit our customer's requirements using all types of native hardwoods such as ash, oak, sycamore and imported species such as mahogany.

We create 3-D drawings from a customer's initial ideas, and then refine them as necessary. All domestic furniture such as beds, tables, bookcases, stools, mirrors, hi-fi units and fire surrounds in solid timbers are produced plus domestic and commercial display equipment.

Styles range from antique reproductions to ultra modern. However, our own preference is for clean flowing lines with subtle ornamentation to add interest, and display the beauty of the timber. We only stain furniture if it has to match other existing pieces, preferring to let the beauty of the wood to show through by hand finishing using oil and wax polishing.

Traditional furniture restoration using French polishing or varnishing can be performed as required. The showroom offers easy disabled access and adequate parking. On display we have a small selection of representative pieces for sale from small gift items to larger furniture, and photographs of some past commissions.

Year Established: October 1995
