Jane Allan lives and works at Seafield Farm near the village of Achnamara in Argyll. She makes a wide range of functional baskets including simple fruit or bread baskets, a variety of round, oval and square shoppers, fishing creels and larger pieces such as laundry and log baskets. The baskets are made in traditional style using willow from commercial growers and more unusual and colourful varieties from her own small willow plantation. Some more decorative baskets include indigenous materials such as larch, birch or wild willow gathered from the surrounding woodland.
As well as making baskets, Jane organises and teaches day and residential courses in basketmaking and has hosted gatherings of members of Scottish Basketmakers' Circle at her home and workshop. Accommodation for residential courses is available in self catering cottages at the farm. She has also constructed living willow arbours and tunnels for schools and private gardens in Argyll.
Jane undertakes commissions and visitors are welcome to visit the workshop but as she does not work full-time, it is advisable to phone first.
Jane is also a member of the Basketmakers' Association.
