I graduated from Textile Design (specialising in print) at Central Saint Martins College in London in 2003. I work by applying the same ideas and techniques to a variety of materials. I create the initial and finishing couture layers to apply to both the body and site-specific interiors based around an evolving textile and paper collection.
My work is innovative, labour-intensive and handcrafted combining traditional and modern techniques. Exploring pleating, embossing and folding techniques and ideas adapted from traditional origami patterns. The concept and inspiration for my designs comes from a variety of sources. Looking at interior and domestic spaces and traces left by their occupants, the effect of the natural on the urban, light and shadow, lace etc. There is a playful variation in scale, imagery and technique in my work, contrasting small and large, delicate and bold, illustrative and sculptural.
I like to apply my work to a variety of end results and bridge gaps between textiles, craft, art, design, fashion and interiors. I make a lot of wallpaper lengths and wall hangings but also jewellery, accessories, cushions, blankets, quilts, etc. I enjoy working to a specific brief and I am available for commissions.
