About Morag McGee Ceramics

Personal Statement

My work is how I see people, their eccentricities and quirks brought to the forefront and positioned in everyday life. It could be a flick of the hair or a particularly loud t-shirt that sparks the imagination to create these exuberant pieces.
Within the clay surface are fragments and hints of text and drawing - a clue to the person within.
All my figures are hand built using thin layers of paperclay and then glaze fired twice to ensure a depth of surface colour.
Pieces are developed from sprawling sketchbooks where people and poses are captured on a day to day basis.
I also produce smaller, functional ware in fine porcelain, which is available through craft galleries and online.
A sense of place in identity is important throughout all my work, whether it is through historical research or through the local customs and specifically, the Doric language of the North East.

After studying at Edinburgh College of Art, i moved back to the North East of Scotland and set up home and a studio, from there I exhibit throughout the UK in both galleries and shops, I also can be seen at certain alternative art and craft fairs. I have a large breadth of experience in ceramics and teaching ceramics and lecture at Grays School of Art.
I have also been involved in many local public art projects - specifically tile mural projects within the primary schools of Aberdeenshire and Moray.
